Do you believe in astrology? If so, how often do you check your horoscope and how does it impact your life? If not, do you get annoyed when people make assumptions about you based on your sign?

View 787 Answers

Yes, there can be truth there, but it's just a tool for projection. The symbolism can often be taken too literally. Most daily horoscopes based on generalized sun signs alone annoy me, as do sun sign stereotypes. As if all people born within a certain month have the same personality, and the exact same things happen to them every day. That is not logical.

Some quotes by Carl Jung:

"We are born at a given moment in a given place and like vintage years of wine we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything else."

"The thing that matters is not the position of the stars, the thing that matters is time. You can call time what you like. It is quite indifferent whether you say the spring-point is zero degrees Aries or 28 Pisces; that is a convention; it is nevertheless the spring-point. So you see, these old designations of time were not taken from the heavens, but given to the heavens. ... Man has created the constellations. So obviously the constellations were not intended by the creator of the world to be an astrological text-book to us."

"The horoscope ... is itself a mandala (a clock) with a dark centre, and a leftward circumambulatio with houses and planetary phases."

"Astrology is of particular interest to the psychologist, since it contains a sort of psychological experience which we call projected - this means that we find the psychological facts as it were in the constellations. This originally gave rise to the idea that these factors derive from the stars, whereas they are merely in a relation of synchronicity with them. I admit that this is a very curious fact which throws a peculiar light on the structure of the human mind." 1947 in a letter to prof. B.V. Raman
I've been to seven shows and have not heard the same song at all seven, not even Cornflake Girl.

Those who complain about hearing LE songs like Crucify all the time? I've heard it zero times. Nor Leather, Winter or Happy Phantom (No Girl either, which would be AMAZING, but she hasn't played it in too long).

I think I have added most of Choirgirl to my collection, except for.... gosh darnit, Jackie's Strength completed my collection. Yay, that greatly pleases me as Choirgirl is my favorite (okay, you'll also hear me say Pele and Scarlet are my favorite but they are all my top 3). Wish I could remember actually hearing Playboy Mommy and Northern Lad.

Speaking of Pele, I NEED Horses, Father Lucifer, Doughnut Song, and Blood Roses on this list at some point (and the rest of Pele but those especially).

Scarlet? I can't ask for more after Isabel, really, although I wouldn't mind to complete my collection... Gold Dust would be divine, but I'd be annoyed if I couldn't cry and get into it. Mrs. Jesus would be cool too, since she wrote it through Indiana after 9/11 on the map, the first time I saw her live.

Glad to have most of my favorite Venus and Beekeeper songs (Jamaica Inn would be cool though), but as for my favorites from ADP, it's a little lacking in Dragon(!), Girl Disappearing, Roosterspur Bridge. From the new one? Ophelia, Flavor, Starling and Abnormally Attracted to Sin, please!

So many b-sides I could ask for, but I am really happy to have Take Me With You.

Also, I should never ever complain about adding more Liquid Diamonds, Space Dog, Talula, Siren, and Code Red to this list.

The album is Tori’s seventh, spanning across 18 tracks and once concept, which details the cross-country travels of Scarlet, a character loosely based on Amos, as well as the concept of America post-September 11th. Perhaps the most prominent fact related to this song is its video (available here), which features Amos, as a head attached to a disembodied leg, falling in love with another head attached to a disembodied arm (played by Adrien Brody). The two creatures show signs of romantic interest in one another, until the arm accidentally hurts the leg's feelings by laughing at her crooked fifth toe. The leg then flees by jumping onto a passing skateboard, and ends up alone on a deserted beach. The arm finds her and they consummate their love with a deep kiss. The act of kissing causes the arm and leg to suddenly start swelling up and growing their extra body parts -- they finally become complete, "whole" humans by realizing their love.

YOU are an epic - the famed journey down to San Francisco. Much like the entire mood of this song, you are serene and somewhat sentimental, yet at the same time, there lies within you an innate sense of adventure. You are one of the more spontaneous people out there (and also one with a penchant for the finer things in life). Both these traits particularly show when you’re in a relationship with lots of potential for romance. Actually, there aren’t too many things more important to you than love. You get off on the thrill of being in love, which is not to say that you’re necessarily unfaithful or fickle. You’re just as likely to be a serial monogamist, in love with love itself, and with the sense of adventure it gives you. You are at your best when in love – you give yourself fully and whole-heartedly, every time hoping that you’ve finally met your match: someone who with whom you can share your innermost thoughts and feelings, a partner whose sense of adventure is on a par with yours. A person who will be just as excited as you at the prospect of fulfilling your life-long dream of traveling across America (or around the world, for that matter). Another defining trait for you is your restlessness, or, in keeping with Tori’s metaphor, your road fever. Chances are, with your idealistic nature, you have yet to find someone who will live up to your expectations – and until you do, you are not likely to find your peace. You do value each and every single relationship you enter, giving your partners your very best, and consciously making beautiful memories with them. In your weaker moments, you return to those moments of grace you had and may even become sentimental. Most likely, however, you revisit your memories to draw strength and devise plans to make even better ones the next time around.

Take The "Ten Most Famous Tori Amos songs" Personality Quiz at HelloQuizzy

My Jung type alternates right between INFP and INFJ. These are rarer types, with INFJ the most rare.

The J comes in when I really really need structure in my life and set goals. And routine, in order to function properly. Which I do now. And the P is when I have bursts of spontaneous energy, or when I experience mania and intuition overload. Not necessarily a bad thing in the moment, but the results are sometimes dangerous. The bipolar stuff. So basically I need a balance of Perceiving and Judging. The bipolar stuff also makes me a lot more outgoing in spurts but not enough to ever score as an extrovert.

As far as Enneagram goes, I tend to get different results on different tests. I've got some 9 (seeking union, very Libra), some 7. At similarminds.com I tend to get the 4, indulging in fantasy and fearing being defective. I can't argue with that.
